![]() The current losses that have occurred and the suffering that has taken place in Haiti are nothing less than horrific. The nightmarish reports coming out of the country along with the images flooding the Internet today … the devastation is worse than we could ever have imagined. Recent reports fear that more than 50,000 are dead and some estimates are as high as 100,000. It is just too soon to tell. One5 Medical Director Brad Guatney and team arrived and set up base at the Mission of Hope Haiti in Tityan, just outside of Port-Au-Prince, Thursday. The team spent the rest of the day treating victims at their clinic. They are taking mobile clinics into Port-au-Prince today. Dr. Greg Bonnen from Houston Physicians’ Hospital, and Dr. Bill Garcia, an orthopedic surgeon from Dodge City, have doctors and nurses standing by to leave as soon as we get the word from Brad. Additional volunteers are lining up to help, including translators and others from The First Haitian Baptist Church of Kansas City. The people of Haiti do not have the resources or infrastructure to respond to this crisis, so outside help is critical. There are many ways to offer support for relief: · Cash is still the most critical need – to purchase fuel, food, water, and medical supplies. You can donate at https://www.one5.org/donation.cfm. We have matching gift pledges of $16,000 so your donation has double impact! Special thanks to Bobby McKenzie of Infinity Building Services, Barbara Smith of Methodist McKinney Hospital, and those who wish to remain anonymous for these matching gifts. · Volunteer – We are coordinating efforts to send medical teams into Haiti to help the relief efforts during the coming weeks/months. If you are interested, send an e-mail with your contact info to Info@one5.org. Please put “volunteer” in the subject line. Additional info for potential volunteers: If you are interested in volunteering for a trip, send complete contact information to info@one5.org and put “volunteer” in the subject line. Include your name (as it is on your passport), home address, cell phone, email address, passport #, and skillset (e.g. RN, MD/specialty, construction, or layperson) – no special skills are required, it just helps us build effective teams. Also, please indicate if you have previous experience with disaster relief, mission work, or working overseas, and if you speak French or Creole. Include dates available. In the meantime, ensure that your passport is up to date (expiration date not more than 60 days out) and you have the appropriate immunizations – http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/haiti.aspx At this time the immediate need is for medical and trauma personnel; while we wish we could use all of the support so generously offered, The United States Agency for International Development’s Office (IDC) of Foreign Disaster Assistance are asking that those volunteers without significant search & rescue or surgical or trauma training please wait – the city is finding it difficult to accommodate. Please still let us know of your interest, as help will be needed for weeks and months. · Donate medical supplies (CLICK HERE for current list). Send donations to One5 Foundation, 11221 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66211. The IDC has indicated that they are unable to accept small quantity donations so we will be acting as a consolidator. Thank you to the many people have stepped forward offering prayers, financial contributions, supplies or have volunteered. Your support is appreciated! HAITI DISASTER RELIEF HUB supports two foundations working in Haiiti Real Medicine Foundation http://www.realmedicinefoundation.org One5 Foundation http://www.one5.org/ WHAT IS HUB? Humanity Unites Brilliance is a social enterprise that connects people and organizations within a global community, and supports our members to reach their highest potential, allowing us to create positive impact in our own lives, and for our world. WHY we are here… HUB was created to provide a gathering place – a “hub” or community – to support you to SHINE your light of courage, innovation, and compassion into all of HUMANity to better serve the world. By doing so, you and we help transform the world – starting with ourselves – from survival, through self-empowerment, to sustained abundance. WHAT we believe… We believe in you and your strength as you gather in community. “Uncommon people united by common hearts with a common purpose.” We believe in your ability to change the world as you receive the support you need to do so. As Margaret Meade so rightfully stated, “Never doubt that a small, committed group of citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” We believe in challenging the status quo. Just tell us we “can’t” do something, and we’ll do just about anything in alignment with our core values (learning, loving, sharing, serving) to show that we can. We believe in the power of social business to unleash human creativity for good. A social business is defined by Muhammad Yunus (winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize along with the Grameen Bank, which he founded) as a company primarily focused on providing a social benefit rather than on maximizing profit for the owners; it is owned by investors who seek social benefits such as poverty reduction, health care for the poor, social justice, and global sustainability, through psychological, emotional and spiritual satisfactions over just financial reward. HOW we are changing the world… - Providing platforms and connections for uncommon people to share their brilliance with others and be the “heroes” of our world. - Providing a safe container for uncommon people to transform their lives and find the richness in a committed community they always wanted – which helps people trust themselves more, and their fellow humans. - Encouraging people to travel outside their comfort space, psychologically and physically through our events - whether in the US or Africa, our events give you a glimpse of yourself and others as you haven’t seen before, developing a deeper compassion and bond with your fellow humans. - Spreading knowledge and empowerment to the far corners of the world. Being a social business model for giving back – both giving back to its community, and giving back to the world’s needy – far larger percentages than most people and businesses believe is possible. - Inspiring people who would normally not engage in direct sales or referral marketing to become social entrepreneurs – giving the “I can make a difference” person more options for income that fits how they see themselves. - Allowing community members to become bigger philanthropists. Through a receiving & giving model, versus just a giving model, people are waking up to their own power. - Creating the belief that it’s possible to do something revolutionary for the good of the world, and to not be afraid to try it. (We haven’t done it all right; we’ve made mistakes; but we’ll keep trying til we get it right!) - Uniting worthy non-profits and care-givers with individuals and organizations, knowing that as a united front, we are more efficient and effective in serving the world. ![]() A few nights ago we posted to Facebook that HUB'ees were starting to rally around getting help to Haitians. We want to alert you to One5 Foundation which is a member of the HUB community that is working with Spryte Loriano, HUB President and Chief Humanitarian Officer, and Marcia King, Global Marketplace Manager, to provide quick solutions through the HUB community. You may want to help - here are four ways to do so:
HUB Support Team HUB'ees to Help in Haiti - Press Release from One5.org! More than 2 million people have been affected by the earthquake in Haiti. Relief and government agencies are already on the ground and One5 Foundation's medical team is on their way to help. The team will not only provide medical assistance, but will let us know what is needed and how best One5 can help. We anticipate sending a couple of teams to Haiti within the next two weeks. We will rely on Brad Gautney, One5 Foundation's Medical Director, to tell us what kind of medical expertise is needed, as well as what supplies we will need to send. Currently, financial support and awareness is what is needed most. We want to thank all of you that have already made a financial contribution and/or offered to help here or in Haiti - we appreciate your support! Special thanks to Bobby McKenzie with Infinity Building Services who has offered to match the first $5000 that is given to the Foundation and an anonymous donor who is matching an additional $2500. You can double the impact of your gift if you donate now to help us respond to this disaster. You can also help us raise awareness and generate support by posting a link to us on your facebook page or blog or by tweeting about us. He ran four man teams and Force Recon missions in the Central Highlands. He was wounded in April of '68 and awarded the Purple Heart. When he returned from Vietnam, he pursued a degree in Business from San Diego State, and became the Vice President of a Software Company. Fifteen years ago, his life began to fall apart and he was diagnosed with PTSD. Even though Ernie had taken advantage of the VA's individual therapy and group therapy sessions, he suffered from nightmares for 40 years. His normal sleeping pattern was to wake up 3-4 times in the night and to never get more than 6 hours of sleep. After one session with Tom Stone at Great Life Technologies, he somehow relieved himself of the anxiety that wouldn't allow him to sleep. That night after the session with Tom, he slept 9 hours, the following night 8 hours, and so it has been. Ernie says that it works and it is a miracle of sorts. His quality of life has improved, he have more energy and he is happier. Ernie thinks anyone with combat-related stress should try it. 2010 is now presenting itself to YOU!
